Making Hair Accessories Last

Talk about hair-owing. There's nothing worse than spending top dollar on hair accessories, only to have them disappear after just one wear. Ribbons, bows, barrettes and headbands are just some of the standard hair staples that are part of every girl's wardrobe. The problem is keeping track of these fancy frills when they're at the mercy of your children. When you do your child's hair, secure all accessories in tightly so that your child can't easily remove them. This way, your daughter is more likely to arrive home with her girlie gear still intact. Make a routine out of removing accessories. You'll want to have catch-all container for your child's things. You'll find tackle box storage containers at Target or Wal-Mart in the beauty aisle -- these are perfect for storing hair accessories. If you don't want to spend any money, a basket will also do the trick.
The goal is to keep all of the accessories in one place so that they don't end up missing in action. You may want to invest in some small baggies to keep accessories from getting separated. It's far too easy to lose one when you're dealing in sets. Another option is to purchase some type of pretty ribbon at the local fabric or art supply store. Tie it into a bow and then attach clips or barrettes to the ribbons. This system allows you to see exactly what you have in stock without having to rummage through an organizer. Visit a local craft show and you'll run across doll faced barrette holders. These cutesy crafts have a head full of yarn with which barrettes easily attach. Younger children will get a kick out of returning the hair clips to their doll's "hair" after every day.
