Flower Power: 8 Minutes, 6 Exercises, 1 Great Body

By Kim Droze, MyDailyMoment.com Managing Editor

For many women (and men), time isn't on their sides.

At least to hear them tell it. A Normal Barinteractive survey took a look at why people do not exercise on a regular basis. More than 30 percent of the 22,000 people questioned identified a lack of time as the culprit keeping them from getting physically fit.{relatedarticles}

It's an excuse that resonates with Pilates instructor and personal trainer Estelle Shaw. The mother of two often finds herself juggling so many personal and professional obligations that she is lucky to find the time to brush her teeth. Ironically, that's exactly what she was doing when she was inspired to create the Fitness Flower, a fitness regimen designed to fit your life. It's a series of simple exercises that are actually done WHILE you're brushing your teeth, moisturizing your skin, brushing your hair and completing the rest of your nightly routine.

Shaw recalls feeling as overwhelmed as her clients after the birth of her first child back in 2008. Even she struggled to find the time to sneak in a workout.

She tells MyDailyMoment, "All of my clients were asking me what I was doing to stay in shape. I was a professional dancer prior to becoming a Pilates instructor and personal trainer so I just knew movement is integrated into your everyday life. I would try to sneak it in wherever I could. I would be washing the dishes, and I would be stretching.{relatedarticles}

"The 10 minutes before bed is my time. I was staring at myself brushing my teeth, and I started doing squats. I started making it a nightly routine. I told my clients, and they thought it was a great idea. Although other people have done something similar, it's never been taken to the next level. We're actually giving women a reminder so that they're accountable. It's like having a personal trainer in the bathroom."

The ultimate exercise in multi-tasking definitely has legs -- it's already become a hit among her clients. FitnessFlower consists of six convenient exercises that get you in shape in less than 10 minutes. Shaw says that incorporating her series of easy-to-do exercises is absolutely seamless. The eye-catching flower diagram attaches to the bathroom mirror with a suction cup. On the front of the flower is an hourglass used to time the routine, along with directions for each exercise.

"Basically, it's a fitness guide for busy women who don't want to add anything to their to-do list to get a workout in."

There are squats while brushing teeth, leg lifts while flossing, wall push-ups while drying hands and so forth. Shaw describes Fitness Flower as a sculpting and toning workout ideal for any fitness level. Whether you are looking for a program to get you started or to use for maintenance, the Fitness Flower gets the job done.{relatedarticles}

It even comes with a free Reading Rose bookmark that has extra stretches that can be performed in bed when you're reading or relaxing.

Shaw recommends those using Fitness Flower perform the workout twice a day, along with 10 minutes of some other physical activity. Doing so meets the 30-minutes-a-day exercise recommendation.Shaw guarantees that people who follow the Fitness Flower routine will reap results, as long as they follow the proper form.

She explains: "If you follow everything and do every move correctly, you will definitely tone your muscles."

Shaw can't say enough about the convenience of the Fitness Flower, which can be done anyplace, anytime.

"The biggest thing is that you don't have to stop and go to the gym. Some people can't afford the gym or don't have a babysitter. Some people don't want a gym workout. Fitness Flower has the convenience factor because it can be done in pajamas. You can do it anywhere. You can do it multiple times a day. There are three different levels, so it can be adapted to your own needs."{relatedarticles}

As an added bonus, Shaw provides her email so that users of the Fitness Flower can contact her for more advanced options. Basically, it's like having a personal trainer at your fingertips, she points out.

In this MyDailyMoment, Shaw shares her lotion calf raises used to strengthen those leg muscles while moisturizing your body.

Lotion Calf Raises

While putting sunscreen on your neck and face in the morning or your beauty cream at night, sculpt your calf muscles. (Shaw actually does these while removing her make-up.)
1. Hold counter with one hand.
2. Stand on tiptoes and lift heels parallel to one another.
3. Elongate your spine.
4. Keep abs strong.
5. Repeat 20 times.
