Sausage & Sweet Potato Casserole
Savory and sweet is a great combination for your taste buds. The sweet potato gives the plate a candied flavor while the mouthwatering sausage finishes the plate. Feel free to sprinkle raisins on the top layer to add an extra sweet taste. Sweet, spicy and everything nice is what this dish is.
Ingredients
For 4 people
- 4 cup(s) unpeeled tart apple, thinly sliced
- 4 cup(s) peeled sweet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2/3 tablespoon(s) instant minced onion
- 2 teaspoon(s) salt
- 1/2 cup(s) maple syrup
- 1/2 cup(s) apple juice
- 2 ounce(s) melted butter
- 16 ounce(s) pork sausage
- 1/3 cup(s) dry bread crumbs
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2-qt. casserole. Arrange alternate layers of apples and sweet potatoes in casserole sprinkle each sweet potato layer with onion and salt. Thoroughly combine syrup, apple juice and butter and pour mixture over casserole. Cover and bake for 1 hour. Meanwhile, brown sausage, stirring with wooden spoon until crumbly. Drain sausage and mix with breadcrumbs. After the hour, uncover casserole and spread sausage mixture on top. Bake, uncovered an additional 20 minutes.
