Split Pea Soup With Barley

Ingredients
For 8 people
- 80 floz water
- 2 cup(s) yellow split peas
- 1/2 cup(s) barley
- 6 teaspoon(s) chicken soup base
- 1 bay leaf
- 6 teaspoon(s) dried marjoram or 3 stalks marjoram, chopped
- 1 ounce(s) dried rosemary or 3 stalks rosemary, chopped
- 6 teaspoon(s) dried oregano or 3 stalks oregano, chopped
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
- 2 medium carrots, chopped
- 5 ounce(s) ham, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon(s) ground black pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon(s) salt, to taste
Directions
Bring water, peas, barley, bay leaf and bullion to boil; reduce heat. Simmer covered for 30 minutes. Stir in celery, carrots, onion and herbs; return to boil; reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes until vegetables, peas and barley are tender. Stir in ham and pepper. Cook 5 more minutes. Remove bay leaf, and season to taste with salt.
